Seaborne again!
It has been a while since my last blogpost. Around three years to be presise. The reason is not that we lost our interest for boating nor that we lost our interest for blogging. We moved to Thailand and we have been living in Thailand for two and a half years. Me and my wife has been working at a construction yard, building offshore wind structures. It has been a great period with a lot of new experiences. Most valuable was to get to know the working culture and environment in Thailand.

When we were about to move, we were discussing whether we should sell our boat and get a new one when we came back, or to lay up or boat onshore. We chose the latter. And in the aftermath, looking at how prices have developed for used boats, that was a very wise choice. We can get far more for our boat today than we would have got 3 years ago. I.e. we would have had to pay a lot more for a new boat today compared to what we could have get if we sold our boat. One of the main reasons is the norwegian currency. Norwegian kroner has reduced a lot compared to euros or USD. And since no sailboats are being produced in Norway, the currency is directly affecting the prices. In addition to that, the price increase in general has also been huge lately. I assume we could get at least 25% more for our boat today compared to 3 years ago.
Now we are back in Norway and it is time to get the boat back in water. There is a lot to do when the boat has been on land for three years. She was very dirty and had to be cleaned thoroughly. Her gelcoat was not very glossy at all and needed thorough rubbing. I also expected a lot of things to malfunction and at least a few leakages in various hoses and pipes. Surprisingly, almost everything functioned preferctly. There were a few things, which I will come back to in another blog post. Our boat is now ten years old, and I decided to replace the saildrive gasket before putting her back into sea. More posts will come.

First day back into sea. Absolutely fantastic weather. |
Through the past three years I have kept an eye on the statistics for this blog, and I see that there are more than 500 readers of my blog every month. I am happy to see that people find my posts valuable, and that gives me motivation to keep posting information about our boat life, repairs, problems, trips, and more.
Finally, I got our boat back into the sea, and we are testing her this weekend, preparing for a 3-4 weeks vacation later this summer.
